The company holding Andover Radio's 95.9FM licence went into liquidation on 15 September. The licence runs to 2028 and can only move with Ofcom's consent.

The company that holds the broadcasting licence for Andover Radio, the town’s 95.9FM community station, has gone into liquidation. Its members voted to wind it up on 15 September. Two notices confirming it appeared in The London Gazette on 22 September.

The station’s website was still running on Monday, with a listen-live link, a programme schedule and catch-up shows from as recently as 25 September. Nothing published so far says whether the station will carry on.

What the record shows

Andover Radio Limited is company number 09788838. It was set up in September 2015 as a company limited by guarantee, and lists radio broadcasting as its business. The Gazette notices describe it as a “Community Radio Station” funded by “Advertising and sponsorship”.

The two notices, both dated 22 September, record:

  • a special resolution of 15 September that the company “be wound up voluntarily”
  • a creditors’ voluntary liquidation, the route a company takes when it cannot pay its debts
  • the appointment of joint liquidators from Leonard Curtis, the insolvency firm at Whiteley, near Fareham
  • a principal trading address of Suite 2, Portland House, 55-57 High Street, Andover

The appointment notice is Gazette notice 5214634. GOV.UK explains that this form of liquidation is used when a company is insolvent and its shareholders agree to close it.

The company had been behind on its filings for some time. Its filing history shows:

  • the last accounts filed cover the year to 30 September 2022
  • the next set were due by 30 June 2024 and never arrived
  • the confirmation statement due by 3 October 2025 is also overdue
  • Companies House issued first strike-off notices in December 2022, September 2024 and August 2025; each time the action was suspended or discontinued

The licence is the company’s, not the station’s name

Ofcom’s licence record names Andover Radio Limited as the licensee for Andover Radio on 95.9 MHz. The licence number is CR101268BA/2. It runs from 5 April 2018 to 4 April 2028.

That matters because a community radio licence cannot simply pass to someone else. Ofcom’s guidance for community radio licensees says a licence “can only be transferred from one body to another with the written consent of Ofcom”. Ofcom must be satisfied the new holder could meet every licence condition for the rest of the term. Only the current holder can ask for a transfer.

Neither the Gazette notices nor Ofcom’s page say whether a transfer has been requested. Ofcom’s record was last updated in May 2024.

The station shares its website with the Love Andover listings brand. A separate company, Love Andover Limited (10685228), is also on Companies House with a proposal to strike off and accounts overdue since December 2022.

What it means for you

  • Listeners: the station’s website was still offering a live stream and schedule on 28 September. A liquidation does not switch a transmitter off by itself, but the licence belongs to the company being wound up.
  • Advertisers and sponsors: if the company owes you money, or you have paid for airtime not yet broadcast, you are a creditor. The Gazette gives the liquidators’ contact as creditors.south@leonardcurtis.co.uk.
  • Volunteers and presenters: questions about the station’s future are for the liquidators and the station’s management.

We will report what happens to the licence when Ofcom or the liquidators say.
