Room on the Broom told at Harmony Woods on Tue 27 Oct, then hazel broomstick making, £8 a child. Plus Halloween crafts at The Diamond Wood on Sat 24 Oct.
Families can hear Room on the Broom told in the woods this half term, then make a broomstick of their own from hazel. The Andover charity Andover Trees United is running the session at Harmony Woods on Tuesday 27 October 2026, from 10.30am to 11.30am, meeting at The Cabin.
It is one of two Halloween-themed events the charity has lined up for the October break. The other is a Halloween craft afternoon at The Diamond Wood on Saturday 24 October, from 1pm to 3pm.
Room on the Broom, Tuesday 27 October
The story is told by Amanda Kane-Smith of Merry-Go-Round Storytelling in an interactive session for children and the adults with them. After the story, the children go into the wood and make their own mini broomsticks, “and perhaps even a wand”, from hazel twigs and branches gathered there.
Amanda recorded a short invitation for the charity, which it sent us to share:
“Join me on the 27th of October when I’m going to be bringing the classic tale of Room on the Broom to life at Harmony Woods with Andover Trees United,” she says in it. “Then after the storytelling we are going to be making some marvellous mini broomsticks made from the magical hazel trees that grow there. So, please come and join me.” She signs off by asking: “Now, where did I put my broomstick?”
The charity says the morning “combines storytelling, creativity, and time spent outdoors, giving families a fun way to celebrate autumn and enjoy Harmony Woods during half-term.”
According to the event page, the session is for ages 4 and over, and children must come with an adult. Tickets are £8 per child with an accompanying adult and £2 for each additional sibling. Water is provided; the charity says there are no games or refreshments, as the hour is the story and the craft. Places are limited and can be booked through the ticket page.
Halloween crafts with Amy, Saturday 24 October
Three days earlier, Andover Trees United trustee Amy hosts a Halloween craft afternoon at The Diamond Wood. The charity describes it as “a relaxed afternoon of Halloween-inspired crafting”, where children can “get creative, learn new techniques and make a selection of handmade crafts to take home”.
The workshop suits complete beginners as well as children who already love making things, and the event page says all ages are welcome.
Tickets on the workshop page are £4 per adult and £3 per child, booked through Zeffy.
Free for members
The charity’s release says its Junior Members can attend both events as part of their membership. The two booking pages go a little further and list both as free for all Andover Trees United members, who enter their membership code at checkout. Details of membership are on the charity’s website.
Both events are part of what the charity calls a growing programme of activities “designed to help children and families spend time outdoors, get creative and build a connection with nature”. Places are limited at both and the charity recommends booking ahead. Its other autumn events, including the monthly Tree Ents & Skylarks nature club for 12 to 15s, are on its events list.
